About Us

We are both are well-travelled, having spent years on the road for business as well as pleasure, staying in all kinds of accommodations all over the world, from five-star hotels to tents, and ocean liners to overnight ferries. Our experiences have given us visions of the ideal places we would like to stay, and we have channeled them into creating Y Granar and the Hygge Hut.

We love pets, currently having one dog and one cat in our family, as well as five hard-working but independent feral cats. The smooth collie pictured below is dear old Alfred, and the tortoise-shell cat is Isadora.  Our desire to wecome guests and their pets has been tantamount in the concept of all of our self-catering facilities.

We were delighted to find this 200+ year old property in the stunning foothills of the Cambrian Mountains, an undiscovered part of Wales just waiting to be explored. We acquired Tan yr Allt in 2015, and immediately began the challenging process of converting the granary of the early 18th century stone barn, most recently used as an art gallery, into a pet-friendly and romantic luxury accommodation with style and attitude. At the same time, we discovered a living van which had been lovingly created in the traditional style by Exmoor Huts, and positioned it in one of our pastures. We decorated and outfitted it so as to allow our guests and their dogs to enjoy the freedom and charm of county life in a shepherd’s hut with several acres of its very own meadows.

We welcomed our first guests to the Hygge Hut in 2016, and opened Y Granar in August 2017, allowing guests and their dogs to entirely get away from their complicated lives, and peacefully enjoy the silence and dark skies of rural Wales.
